Lake Manyara is a great place to go on a nighttime safari.
A night game drive will introduce you to a whole new realm of (nocturnal) animal species. It’s a unique way to see the park’s fauna. Specifically, a game drive at night at Lake Manyara National Park.
Biodiversity of Lake Manyara
The variety of ecosystems around Lake Manyara makes it a great place to go on a nighttime game drive. Lake, rift valley cliffs, ground water forest, Ngorongoro highlands, and the dry Tarangire system are all within driving distance of one another, making this region a veritable melting pot of flora and fauna.
Species of Lake Manyara
The animals in Manyara National Park are in excellent condition because of the consistent water supply they receive all year long. Many of Lake Manyara National Park’s rarer creatures are only active at night. The forest is home to a wide variety of animals, including porcupines, genets, and civet cats. Numerous hippos will likely be grazing on the side of the road, as they are nocturnal (active only at night). Although sightings of the elusive leopard are not common, they do happen frequently in the area around Lake Manyara. Sightings of lions are more common, and in areas where they spend much of the day sleeping, lions are virtually constantly active after dark.
Night game drive
At nightfall, you’ll begin your journey into the dense ground-water forest that surrounds Lake Manyara. Following the Simba River down from the forest, you’ll reach the hippo pools in the lake. You’ll go back into the woods and emerge at the park’s entrance at about 22:30. We either drop you off at the gate so your safari driver can pick you up, or we can bring you to the Serena Manyara Lodge.
Experience the park and its wildlife in a whole new light with a night safari.
